I stumbled across this technique one day while trying to 'draw' a herd of elephants in thread. The stitched result really looked like a drawing done in thread - hence the name. In my quest to find suitable photographs, I got to know the very cooperative people of africaimagery.com, who provided all the photographs used as reference for designing this collection. The uniqueness of these designs therefore lies in the fact that they are based on photographs taken of real animals living somewhere on the African continent. Take the design of the lioness drinking with her cubs - when looking at her full stomach, one can almost imagine her just finishing off a 'nice meal'. Not only was clients' response to this collection incredibly positive, but it was also one of the most enjoyable ones I have done so far. This has prompted me to do a similar one depicting zebra, cheetah, meerkat (a small South African mammal similar to a squirrel), vlakvark (an African wild pig), and maybe even some more baboons. Suggestions and requests are therefore welcome - one never knows how your ideas might come to life in the next African Animal Drawings collection! To obtain the best results for this collection, keep the following in mind:
